Presentation Dates: Monday 3/30 and Wednesday 4/1
Groups: Choose a topic individually. We will split you into groups
of 1-3 for presentations based on who has chosen related topics.
Objectives:
- to relate legal issues or social issues to games
Assignment
Choose a legal controversy or a social controversy relating to games. Present
to the class the relevant legal or ethical principles, how both (or all)
sides are applying those principles to the issue in question,
the outcome of the issue, and the conclusions of any relevant scientific
studies.
Examples:
- Scrabulous (a Scrabble clone that was removed from Facebook;
relevant issues are copyright and trademark)
- Tris (a Tetris clone that was removed from the iTunes App Store)
- K.C. Munchkin and Taxman (Pac-Man clones)
- Video game addiction
- Is there a link between video games and childhood obesity?
- Does video game playing affect academic performance?
- Do violent video games lead to violent people?
- To what extent are the creators of violent games responsible for
the actions of their players?
